Here at Bob Cook Homes, we encourage customers to upgrade to all LED lighting if their budget allows it. LED lighting offers several advantages over the incandescent lightbulbs it replaces. Cost wise, it’s much more affordable than it used to be, and is getting cheaper every year. It is much brighter than incandescent bulbs, requiring fewer lights. Most importantly, LED lighting doesn’t put out much heat—which lowers the strain on your HVAC system during peak usage. Designing a well-lit home has never been easier thanks to this quickly-evolving technology.
When people think about their roof, they usually think of it as structure designed to quickly move rain away from the house. While this is true 1% of the time, the other 99% of the time your roof is providing solar shading. On a 90 degree Kansas day, your roof shingles will reach 160 degrees, your attic will reach 130-140 degrees (heat that will eventually sink into your house), while the living envelope of the house is set at 72 degrees.
That’s a tall task for the air conditioner.
By installing a radiant barrier, 97% of the sun’s radiant heat never makes it into the house at all. This upgrade pays for itself in 3-4 years. We think it makes a lot of sense.
LP® TechShield® Radiant Barrier Sheathing is designed to lower a home’s attic temperature. These panels have been installed in more than 1.5 million homes in the United States. Product features include:
Blocks up to 97% of the radiant heat in the roof panel from emitting into a home’s attic, reducing an attic’s temperature by up to 30° F.
Available in warm climate regions throughout the United States.
Patented VaporVents™ technology with post-lamination incising.
Installs like conventional roof sheathing, requiring no additional labor.
May help builders qualify for Green Building credits, energy rebates and lower HERS scores.
Wood sourced through programs certified under the Sustainable Forestry Initiative®.
Backed by a long-term warranty so you can build with security and confidence.
Never think about your hot water needs again: Innovative technology provides an endless supply of hot water whenever and wherever it’s needed – even for simultaneous uses at multiple fixtures. Showers and baths? Absolutely. Laundry and dishes? No problem. Prioritizing activities and scheduling hot water use is a thing of the past.
Never worry about running out of hot water again! Tank-less water heaters heat the water as you use it. Whether you are using one fixture, or multiple fixtures, individually, or all at the same time, the hot water will not run out!
Unlike tank type water heaters, there is no tank to re-heat. With a tank-less water heater you truly have hot water on demand. There is no longer a need to schedule a daily routine around the availability of hot water!
Tank-less water heaters do not have a storage tank that could develop a leak and flood your basement.
Multiple sizes of tank-less water heaters are offered to best fit your lifestyle, based off of your hot water need and usage.
Tank-less water heaters are 83% up to 99% efficient depending on the actual unit. Natural gas or propane is used more efficiently, resulting in less waste, and emitting less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
Unlike a tank-type water heater, a tank-less unit uses a variable gas valve. This means that the water heater only uses the amount of gas necessary to heat the water passing through it, thereby using less gas, and wasting less energy.
Whereas tank type water heaters heat and re-heat water constantly, tank-less water heaters only heat water when a hot water faucet is turned on. Unlike tank-type water heaters, natural gas or propane is not wasted on keeping a tank warm.
Every tank-less unit comes with a digital display allowing for easy setting of water temperature. Unlike tank-type water heaters, if a problem were to ever occur, the digital display would give an error code allowing for easy maintenance of a tank-less unit. Waste less space: A tank-less water heater hangs on a wall requiring less space than that of a tank-type unit.
A tank type manufacturer’s warranty is typically 6 years on the tank, 3 years on parts, and 1 year on labor. A tank-less water heater warranty is typically 12 years on the heat exchanger, 5 years parts, and 1 year labor.
Installation cost for a tank-less water heaters is far less on new construction versus retrofitting an existing water heating system.
The quality of a Cook-built home extends far below the surface. Bob Cook Homes can assist you with water circulation solutions to increase your homes efficiency.
Don’t wait for hot water to get to your faucet, a hot water recirculation line allows for hot water to get to your fixtures much faster, wasting less water in the process!
Hot water can take as long as 1 to 2 minutes to get to a faucet on the far side of the house from the water heater, wasting anywhere from 1-6 gallons of water in the process!
Having to run a faucet to get hot water not only wastes water, but wastes the natural gas or propane needed to heat the water.
A recirculation pump can be programmed to run only during the times of day when you are using hot water, minimizing electrical usage, and minimizing hot water waste
